Thompson statement on opposition of 2021 House Budget Resolution

Washington, D.C. – House Agriculture Committee Republican Leader Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) released the following statement after voting against the 2021 House Budget Resolution:

“The 2021 House Budget Resolution is a deeply partisan document. It was drafted in secret and rushed to the floor, without input from a single Republican. Its sole purpose is to permit the majority to govern under one-party rule and to complement the President’s overuse of executive authority.

"This deadly virus has precipitated a crisis that affects each of us and it will take the ideas, energy, and enthusiasm of all of us to overcome. I opposed the 2021 Budget Resolution because it does not take into consideration what has been appropriated, obligated, and used by the American people, and it certainly diminishes our ability to meet the challenges facing our nation.

"The House Agriculture Committee has a long and celebrated tradition of bipartisanship which I hope we can build on in the 117th Congress. Beginning the Congress with this partisan process, and instructions that significantly increase our nation’s deficit with no true acknowledgement of actual need will certainly frustrate that effort.”
